Data storage

Local mode and cloud sync are separate paths

The web app works locally first. Cloud sync is optional. The Chrome extension saves into cloud categories, so extension save requires sign-in.

Local mode

Best for cleaning up Chrome bookmarks on one device.

  • Data stays in the current browser and is not restored automatically after clearing site data.
  • Import, categories, drag sorting, deletion, and search work without an account.
  • Local bookmarks are not uploaded automatically.

Cloud sync

Best when you need the same bookmarks on multiple devices.

  • After sign-in, bookmarks and categories are associated with your account.
  • Cloud data is used to read and update bookmarks across devices.
  • Review what you want to sync before moving from local mode to account mode.

Chrome extension save

The extension saves the current page while browsing.

  • Extension save requires sign-in because it writes into cloud categories.
  • Guest-only local web data is not automatically read or written by the extension.
  • You can use web import and organization without installing the extension.

Choose where data should live

Use local mode for cleanup. Sign in later when you need cross-device sync.
